We all keep coming across the term, ‘battery life’ and we are even aware that the battery life depends upon the type of battery that is being used.  However, there is a lesser known fact that most people are not aware of. This fact is that the life of the battery is also affected by the way in which you use your Palm. There are certain aspects that have to be kept in mind if you wish to prolong the battery life of the battery being used in your Palm. Use these tips to conserve it for long life.

Battery is utilized by the device whenever it is displaying video or whenever you are using it to listen to audio. Therefore, avoid leaving your Palm unattended whenever there is a multimedia application running in the device. It is advisable to turn off the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi applications when they are not in use and they also require a sizeable amount of power to operate. The battery is the only source of power that the Palm has, so it is obvious that whenever applications that require large amounts of power are running, your Palm battery will drain accordingly. There is a chance that an application may be launched unintentionally by accidental activation of keys. Therefore, you should ensure that the keypad of the Palm is always locked whenever it is not in use or it is being carried on your person or in a case.

An effective way of ensuring that you do not lose on crucial battery life is to set the Palm in such a way that it automatically switches off when it is not being used. You can set a specific time period beyond which the Palm shuts down if it has not been used in that duration. You can enable this facility by setting Auto-off in your Palm hand held device. You can access it from the Home screen. You will have to tap Prefs and choose power. Then you can set the time after which you would like your Palm to shut down if it is not being used. Another option would be to leave the Palm in its cradle when it is not being carried around. The palm will not utilize its battery for as long as it is in the cradle as it gets power from the computer.

Games on the Palm

Your palm can very helpful when you are in the mood for a game. You can load additional software like Lampwords (members.shaw.ca/lampwords) which is very useful software when it comes to playing scrabble. This software application provides you with numerous words that can be formed from the letters that you enter. This is an excellent way to sharpen your skills in a game like scrabble and other games based on the formation of words. Another useful software is the Ghronos (sourceforge.net/projects/ghronos) which is extremely helpful if it is loaded in your Palm, as it is a clock application meant to be used for gaming purposes. You can time your game and moves by loading this software application into your Palm.

The Palm’s Calendar

You can view the calendar in your Palm in four different options. These four options are the Agenda, Day, Week and Month views and you can set your calendar to be viewed in a particular option by pressing the related buttons that can be found in the left corner at the bottom of the calendar menu. You can exercise the option of changing the default view of the Calendar menu in your Palm by going the Calendar menu and choosing Display Options.

The default view of the Calendar menu is the Agenda view. In this view, you can see the current day’s appointments, events and task items. You may even view the next event that is due on the Agenda view screen. The Day view of the Calendar will display only the current day’s appointments.

If an event has an alarm set for it, then it is denoted by an alarm icon next to it. If an event has some notes that have been entered for it, then there is a note icon present next to that event. If you see events that are marked by overlapping boxes, this means that the events are repetitive and colored circles are used to indicate the category in which the event falls. The Week and the Month views, as the names suggest, are used to view your entire schedule for a week or a month depending on the view that you are in. You can tap on a particular date to view the contents for that particular day in detail. The categories of events in the Week and Month view are denoted by colored boxes and diamonds wherein diamonds are used to indicate events that do not have any date or time associated with it. Recurring events are denoted in the Week view by a dotted line. Events at a later time for the same day are indicated by a bar at the bottom of the Week view.

Voice Support

You can choose to pick up a Palm hand held device that supports voice memos. Such devices will have a voice button that can be used for recording a voice memo. By activating the recording button, you will be able to record your voice for a memo and you can even pause in between if necessary. The voice memo thus recorded is saved along with the length of the recording. The time and date of the recording will also be saved for future reference. You can play the voice memo by tapping on the item to play it. It is possible to store the voice memos in an expansion card. You can also make the necessary settings so that you are warned before deleting a voice memo or else it will be deleted without a warning whenever you select it for deletion.

Powering on your Palm

Palm devices that slide open to reveal the Graffiti input area can be effectively utilized by just setting the power preferences. You simply need to tap Home, preferences and select the power option. You can now utilize the option of Power On When Opened. This will automatically activate the handheld when you open the device by sliding in. Similarly Power Off When Closed will turn off the graffiti area when you close the device.
